The spectrum of gender
Gender has been an issue for a while now. People who exists beyond the male and female binary system have always existed and most of them lived in the shadows, but gladly the awareness about nonbinary identities is increasing. Gender identities are multiplying more each year with the internet. If we visit an informal source like nonbinary.org, we can find more than one hundred options. We can also find progress in the real world such as universities like Harvard which are accepting gender neutral pronouns. This project intend to be the first contact of someone interested in learning about gender identity.
Project made during exchange at York/Sheridan University. A theme should be chosen to create social awareness by a pamphlet and digital publication.
The pamphlet...
is double sided measuring 5,75 x 9 inches folded and 23 x 18 inches unfolded. A learning process was thought due the complexity of the theme:
1. how gender develops;
2. Gender identities beyond male and female; and
3. The life and struggles of trans* community.
From print to digital...
The content in the pamphlet was already divided in segments but because of the nature of the media, it wasn’t possible to give breaks for the reader. The print media gives a linear learn experience and this translated for the digital publication as a non-existent table of content. The idea for the digital publication was to bring the most of interaction as possible especially in form of animation. The most critical case was the segment “What makes who you are” that had to be divided in three parts to create a fluid reading.
